Before forming Open Planet Software its founders worked together for over 10 years, designing and developing software and managing projects for some of the UK's largest telecoms, utility and marine companies. In 2007 they formed Open Planet Software, a company focused on Macintosh and iPhone development, with the aim of bringing their own product ideas to market and to use their engineering skills and experience to help others do the same.
Gavin MacLean

Gavin first coded for food in 1994 while working at the Royal Bank of Scotland, having just graduated from Glasgow University with a degree in Physics and Astronomy. He spent the next three years writing cross platform C on UNIX and Windows for an oil company.
Over the following years he graduated to C++ and fully embraced Microsoft's COM technology. However, after some ear bending from Gordon, he bought an iMac G5 in 2004 and hasn't looked back. He now enjoys beautiful and intuitive user interfaces, the simple yet incredibly powerful Objective-C programming language and non-cryptic documentation.
Gavin has been involved in a number of demanding projects, often working on-site with the customer. In 2003 he spent a year in Nottingham, helping what was then East Midlands Electricity migrate their SmallWorld GIS database into a SCADA control system. He has also worked extensively with British Telecom, putting in place a framework to help ensure the quality of their software.
He enjoys the Scottish countryside, where he lives with his wonderful wife and his kids, Katie and Alastair, who are unquestionably the best in the world.

Gordon has been writing software commercially since 1995 after graduating from the Robert Gordon University with an honours degree in Electronics and Information Engineering. His main language of choice has been C++ until he discovered the beauty of Objective-C and Cocoa!
His Mac journey began in 2002 when Apple bought Emagic - the creators of the Logic music software - and discontinued the Windows version. So he bought a Power Mac G4 and has never looked back.
Gordon has worked on software projects for a diverse range of companies from British Telecom to Mazda Cars. His work has included the development of desktop GIS software, field information systems, data migration tools and digital pen solutions.
Now with Open Planet Software he is creating Mac and iPhone applications and is promoting good Software Engineering practices such as unit testing and continuous integration.
He lives with his wife and young family in a small town in Aberdeenshire where he tries to juggle work, music, being a Dad and sleep (occasionally).
